教育面においては、共通教育の重要性を今さらながら痛感しています。情報科学演習を旧教養部時代から担当していて感じることは、新入生の基礎学力と情報処理技術の格差が近年増加しているように感じています。これらの格差を取り除くよう、これからも情報理教育に積極的に取り組んでいきたいと思います。 研究をとおしての社会貢献としては、民間企業勤務の経験を生かして、水資源の確保・保全などの環境関連分野で、今後とも協力していきたいと考えています。 The Underground Dam – A New Concept in Water Resource Development to Meet the Challenges of Natural Disaster & Climate Change – by  Hiroyasu Furukawa  & Tomio Kuroda (2011) ２０１１．３．１１東日本（東北地方）を襲った大地震と大津波は多くの人命を奪い多大な被害を与えました。福島第一原発は地震により発生した津波により全電源を喪失し、原子炉を冷却するための「冷却水」の確保が困難となりました。このような予想される地震等の自然災害ならびに地球温暖化に備えて、水資源をいかに確保していくかが重要なテーマとなります。われわれは「３．１１」を教訓として、新しい水資源開発について考え『地下ダム』を上梓しました。 The type of underground dam described in this book is something new in water resources development. It is a concept that has a fairly wide applicability in areas that lack water or suffer droughts — conditions that are becoming more common in this era of global warming. They are also the ideal means of securing a lifeline water supply in the event of earthquake and tsunami damage of the type caused by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. In the aftermath of this disaster, they could also have supplied emergency cooling water to avert nuclear catastrophe. Underground dams of this type could be built in many areas of the world on a small or large scale depending on the available groundwater aquifer and local topographical and hydrogeological conditions.
